This educational module develops on the “Book in Five Years Time” cycle. It engages students on professional diploma courses at IUT la Roche-sur-Yon and the Bachelors programme at the École de Design Nantes Atlantique in working together in interdisciplinary teams to consider and design digital devices for mediating books.

About the module
This trial module intersects three course pathways. It will equip students with the ability to work together to develop innovative solutions that meet current or future user needs in cultural spaces (museums or libraries) or that have potential for new practices.
It is open to students on two professional diploma courses at IUT La Roche-sur-Yon (MEDIT: Multimedia Publishing for Young Readers; and TIC ARC: Network and Community Management) and the Bachelor in Interaction Design at the École de Design de Nantes.
Teaching and Accreditation arrangements
The key objective is to engage interdisciplinary teams (design, publishing, community management) in designing digital, cultural mediation devices by combining a strategic vision with understanding of the editorial challenges and user experience.
32 hours – 1 ECTS credit
Schedule
Phase 1: overview of digital mediation practices
Phase 2: educational sessions within each course pathway, inverting the roles in a project
Phase 3: immersive workshop for all course pathways
Phase 4: evaluation and conclusion
Phase 5: presentation to professional stakeholders
Deliverables expected
Students from different subject backgrounds will be able to identify common reference points, jointly construct and define a working issue concerning digital cultural mediation, and present project prototypes to professional stakeholders.
Prospects
The educational sequence is extended further by developing industry links (students will present their work to outside professionals) and there is the possibility of taking the most original projects to the production phase. The academic team also intends to incorporate the approach into an educational cycle (pedagogical innovation) and it will be repeated next year with a new theme. The module also supports the inclusion of these courses in the interdisciplinary hub for digital cultures (autumn 2018).
